Tommy DeVito Not Surprised By Promotion: You Always Stay Ready

Tommy DeVito has had to be ready to play this season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When starting quarterback Jameis Winston went down with an injury in Week 8, DeVito was thrust into action.

DeVito Impressed in Relief Role

In his first start, DeVito led the Buccaneers to a come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints. He threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime.

DeVito continued to play well in the following weeks, leading the Buccaneers to a 3-1 record in his four starts.

DeVito Promoted to Backup Quarterback

With his impressive play, DeVito has now been promoted to the backup quarterback role, behind Ryan Griffin. This means that DeVito will be the first player to step in if Griffin gets injured.

DeVito Ready for the Opportunity

DeVito said he is not surprised by his promotion, and that he has always been ready to play.

“You always stay ready in this league,” DeVito said. “You never know when your number is going to be called.”

DeVito Expected to Play Significant Role in Playoffs

With the Buccaneers in the playoffs, DeVito is expected to play a significant role. He could be called upon to start if Griffin gets injured, or he could come in to relieve Griffin in key situations.

DeVito said he is ready for whatever role the Buccaneers need him to play.

“I’m just going to go out there and do my job,” DeVito said. “I’m going to give it my all, and we’re going to see what happens.”
