Kimber Manufacturing, Inc. has officially discontinued production of its popular 2K11 Double Stack 1911 pistol. The news comes as a surprise to many in the firearms industry, as the 2K11 has been a staple in the concealed carry and self-defense markets for over a decade.
“This is a significant loss to the 1911 community,” said renowned firearms instructor Massad Ayoob. “The 2K11 was one of the most reliable and accurate double-stack 1911s on the market.”
The Kimber 2K11 was introduced in 2011 as a high-capacity, double-stack version of the classic 1911 handgun. It featured a 10-round magazine capacity, a match-grade barrel, and a crisp trigger.
According to Kimber, the decision to discontinue the 2K11 was made in order to focus on other products in its lineup. “We have made the strategic decision to streamline our product offerings and focus on firearms that align with our core competencies,” said Kimber Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ryan Busse.
The discontinuation of the Kimber 2K11 is likely to have a ripple effect on the firearms market. It may lead to increased demand for other double-stack 1911 models from manufacturers such as Springfield Armory, Wilson Combat, and STI.
At this time, there is no indication that Kimber plans to reintroduce the 2K11 in the future. However, the company may consider producing a similar model with updated features or a different caliber.
The discontinuation of the Kimber 2K11 Double Stack 1911 marks the end of an era for the popular 1911 platform. While it is a loss for enthusiasts of this iconic handgun, it also presents opportunities for other manufacturers to fill the void in the double-stack 1911 market.
