Blazers HC Chauncey Billups Blasts ‘Embarrassing’ Effort In Blowout
Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups excoriated his team’s effort after a humiliating 140-118 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
‘Beyond Disappointing’
Billups did not mince words in his post-game press conference, calling the performance “embarrassing” and “beyond disappointing.”
“We got outplayed, outhustled, and outcoached,” Billups said. “It’s unacceptable, and I’m not tolerating it anymore.”
Defensive Breakdown
The Blazers defense has been a major concern all season, and their struggles continued against the Pacers.
“Our defense was non-existent,” Billups said. “We couldn’t stop them from getting in the paint or hitting open shots. It’s pathetic.”
Change Required
Billups hinted that changes could be coming after the embarrassing loss.
“We need to find a way to get more effort and consistency out of our guys,” Billups said. “If we don’t, we’re going to keep having these kinds of nights.”
Player Accountablity
Billups emphasized the need for player accountability.
“The players have to take ownership of their performance,” Billups said. “It’s not on the coaches, it’s on them. We can’t keep making excuses.”
Future Outlook
The Blazers have a disappointing 21-32 record and are in danger of missing the playoffs.
Billups expressed confidence that the team can turn things around, but added that it will require a collective effort.
“We need everyone to step up and buy into what we’re trying to do,” Billups said. “If we do that, we can be a good team.”
