Los Angeles – Eric Musselman’s tenure as USC Trojans head coach began with a resounding 89-54 victory over the Chattanooga Mocs on Monday night at the Galen Center.

Dominant Start

The Trojans, led by 20 points from Drew Peterson, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. USC shot 53.5% from the field and held Chattanooga to just 32.8% shooting.

Musselman’s Impact

“I thought our guys played really hard and executed the game plan,” Musselman said. “We have a lot of potential and I’m excited about this group.”

Musselman, who came to USC from Arkansas, is known for his high-energy style of play and emphasis on defense.

Chattanooga Struggles

The Mocs were led by 15 points from David Jean-Baptiste, but they were unable to keep pace with the Trojans.

“USC is a very good team,” Chattanooga coach Lamont Paris said. “They played with a lot of energy and we couldn’t match their intensity.”

Outlook

The Trojans will look to continue their winning ways when they host Cal State Northridge on Friday night.

“We’re just going to take it one game at a time,” Musselman said. “We have a long way to go, but I’m confident in this team.”
